La Copa America
Chile hosted the 99 year anniversary edition of the Copa America. Since having participated since the first Copa America in Argentina in 1916 Chile had never won the tournament. Chile had never really won much of anything. This time around though the stars seemed to align for the host country. The best team Chile may have ever had, playing on their home soil, and a little penalty luck, the Chileans beat a Messi-led Argentine side in Santiago. The city and the country went wild for one night of pura carrete.

Providencia Scavanger Hunt
| The starting beer. |
We did a scavenger hunt through Providencia. The goal was to take a picture with a number of different things/people while going to different bars and having a pint. Our all-star team of Johanna, Matt, Eva, and myself came in third.

The Footsteps of Darwin
In July of 1834, Charles Darwin arrived in Valparaiso for an extended refueling and break after crossing into the Pacific on the second voyage of the HMS Beagle. To pass the time in August he set out with a crew to explore the area and make their way to Santiago. The crew passed by Cerro la Campana and took a day to scale the side of the mountain. At the top they could see both the Pacific coast and the snow-covered Andes including Aconcagua. This trip was covered extensively in Darwin's diary. I (dragging Eva) took a public holiday to get up there too.

Road Trip Chile
In March, my mom, uncle Guffy, and aunt Sharyn came down to visit Chile. We spent a day in Santiago, in the South of Chile, and Valparaiso.
