The Okavango Delta

We crossed from the Caprivi Strip in Namibia to Botswana via Shakawe. From there we took a mini-bus to Maun and arranged with the Okavango River Lodge a trip into the delta on mokoro.  A mokoro is a dugout canoe traditional to the delta.  The mokoro has the ability to pass through shallow areas and reeds while navigating the many channels and wetlands of the area. We met our mokoro "driver" Onks who grew up in the delta.  He was a fountain of knowledge about the flora and fauna and history of the zone.

Eva in the commander's chair.

A lion's footprint very near our camp.

A cheeky observer.

Some of the many hippos Onks didn't steer us into.
