Svaneti სვანეთი

For the summer vacation away we went to see the Caucasus. The first step was to the high mountains of the Svaneti region on the border with Russia. The region is famous for stone watch towers and being secluded from the rest of the country. It has it's unique culture and language. The hike we did started in the town of Mestia for four days to Ushguli.

Waiting to get the Marshrutka to Mestia in Zugididi

1 lari for a bread is a good deal.

High Viennese culture in the Caucasus.

See pole, will dance.

See cow, will touch.

Already on day two, taking too early of a break.

Eva taking lead with our new Danish friends Marie and Rolf.

Early day three leaving Adishi.

See the glacier in the background? That river is coming straight off it. We walked through!

A rainy start to day four.

The landlords here are unreasonable.

In Ushguli. 2.5 liters of beer in one go.

After hike drinks with our hiking crew.

One of the best hosts we ever had milking the cows.
