Africa Amini Maasai Lodge

For our second to last weekend in Maasailand we got to stay at the Africa Amini Maasai Lodge.  It was started by the organization as an exclusive, environmentally and culturally aware, lodge that uses the revenue to fund the project.  We were there for their opening day and had the place almost to ourselves.

Dancing at sundown.

The shadow on Mount Meru at sunset.

He was much better than us.

Holy Mount Mkuru

Mount Mkuru is a volcanic cone that makes up one of the foothills of Mount Meru.  It is visible from Momella and because of its distinct shape it is a holy mountain for the Maasai who bring the boys to the top when they go through their Rite-of-Passage to become adult members of the community.  The pictures start with a little bit of the park before the climb.

Your classic Zebras in a field.

The climbing team is ready.

Half-way there.

Girls will be girls.

Another successful climb!

Africa Amini Life

After another month living in Momella life has just gotten greener, rainier, and better.  We spent our time between cleaning and re-organizing the library, teaching at the Maasai Vision School in neighboring Ngabobo, and preparing the teachers through seminars on how to change the way they teach to a more dynamic method.

Initiating a reading program in Maasai Vision.

The typical after school touch Eva time.

Literally, the only way to go.

I only buy my bananas by the branch load.

What happened to the animals?
